“Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” James Baldwin Our name was inspired by the rally-cry of activists, filmmakers, and black people throughout the country in response to the acquittal of the four LAPD officers who had brutalized Rodney King. It was initially a call to action for people to document their communities. Now it is a slogan many can relate to. Shoot Films Not People is a film production company and apparel brand rooted in social justice. Our vision is to help people reimagine gun violence through film, fashion, and art. Originally founded in Chicago, Shoot Films, Not People provides powerful testaments to the black experience through film, as well as soft, but bold branded merchandise that features original artwork, statements, and limited reworked/reconstructed designs. These stunning pieces of wearable art send a clear message to inspire conversations, share voices of the unheard, and help spread the message against gun violence as well as other issues. There is something for everyone. As part of our never-ending commitment to uplift black voices and educate the public on the black experience through film, plays, poetry, and scriptwriting, Shoot Films, Not People looks forward to supporting individuals looking to cultivate their own creative pathways in the future.
